North Carolina Clinic Well Worth the Drive
Watson & Herlocker Share Expertise
By Tamson Howard, Paul Saliga & Dennis Butler

For those who could not attend, there was a very good free clinic on the weekend of March 25th sponsored by the North Carolina Horseshoers Association & NC Tool. The first clinician was Eddie Watson of Keswick, Virginia. He discussed reworking the top of a store-bought knife, a skill recently discussed by Shayne Carter in a back issue of Loose Shoe. Mr. Watson then discussed welding a Z-bar shoe to treat heel quarter injuries and he gave us an Equilox demonstration by equiloxing aluminum shoes on a pair of front feet. Equilox has an informational video available as advertised in The Farrier’s Journal. We want to thank Mr. Watson for all the help and time he has unselfishly given us.

After the lunch break, Dave Herlocker shod a 3 year old, five gaited Saddlebred. I’d had the chance to see Mr. Herlocker work shows in North Carolina, and he is an excellent hand at this difficult shoeing. We want to thank Mr. Herlocker for his time and talent also, I know he would help anyone who asked. This clinic may seem like a long trip to some of us from Virginia, but we here in Tidewater have been splitting gas & motel costs for years and the clinic is free. Shopping at nearby NC Tool and saving shipping costs is an added bonus!
